“What Message Are You Sending with
Your Clothing and Personal Style?”

Express the Woman You Have Become
with an Authentic, Ageless Style

You’ve worked hard to become the woman you are today. You’re proud of your wisdom. You’re comfortable in your own skin. And you’re confident about showing your true self to the world.

Unfortunately, you’re undermining yourself with your clothing and style choices.

Your personal style is the most visible and persuasive form of communication. In our media-oriented culture, people are used to making evaluations and forming unconscious opinions about others based on their initial visual impressions. Your style tells everyone who sees you (not just everyone you speak to) who you are … and how you should be treated.

But if you’re like many women, your style doesn’t say, “I’m a confident, vibrant, authentic woman … and someone you should know.”

How We Inadvertently Sabotage Ourselves

The problem boils down to one issue: buying clothes … rather than building a wardrobe. You have clothes if you’ve stood in your overstuffed closet, unable to find anything to wear. If you have a wardrobe, everything you own works perfectly together, in dozens of combinations.

We end up with a less-than-ideal style for a variety of reasons.

Perhaps you’ve been too busy building a career to create a wardrobe. Instead, you snatch up clothes when you can find an hour to spare … without thinking about how they’ll work with other pieces in your wardrobe. You choose things for yourself because you liked how they looked on someone else. Or you settle for clothing that fits adequately – not perfectly.

Other women end up with a closet full of unwearable clothes by engaging in too many bouts of retail therapy. Proper fit and style are overlooked in favor of the “high” of making a purchase.

For other women, fashion is intimidating. Perhaps it’s the childhood scars we bear from not having the “in” clothes of the moment … or of having a favorite outfit ridiculed. You want to look good and you know that what you’re doing isn’t quite right. But you don’t know exactly what’s wrong … or how to fix it.

Still others end up with a hodgepodge of clothes because they haven’t been clear about who they really are. You have outfits that reflect all of your personas … but, as a whole, your collection of clothing is as disjointed as you sometimes feel.

Still other women avoid working on their wardrobe because they want to lose weight first. Until then, you choose to make do with what you already own.

But by constantly putting off the day that you’ll dress in a way that makes you feel spectacular, you’re subconsciously telling yourself that you’re not worth the effort.

You’d never force yourself to wait until you’d lost weight to begin sharing your ideas, giving your opinions or expressing your feelings. But that’s exactly what you’re doing if you’re waiting to express yourself via your personal style – the most visible form of communication at your disposal.

Regardless of how you got here, the end result is the same: Your closet is jammed full of clothes that you don’t enjoy wearing – or that you don’t wear at all. Take a look right now – how many thousands of dollars have you wasted on clothes by buying things that don’t work for you … because you don’t know what works for you?

If these scenarios sound familiar, I’m glad you made it to this page. Because I can help you …

Hi, I’m Gwen Mazer. I’ve been intimately involved in the world of fashion and style for more than 25 years … serving as a fashion editor for Harper’s Bazaar, Creative Director for Esprit, a fashion executive for major retail companies in the United States and Europe, and owner of signature boutiques in New York and San Francisco.

And for many years now, as the owner of Total Image Management, I’ve tapped my professional experience to help clients express their inner spirit via their personal style.

“What you have done in your professional and caring way is to give me permission to take a clear and honest look at myself in a way I have tended to ignore—how I present myself. You have helped me find clothing that truly represents me. Thank you, Gwen. I appreciate your expertise and the gentleness with which you offered it.”

  • The primary goal of a personal style consultation is to help you express yourself authentically through your style and dress. If you aren’t comfortable in your clothes, you won’t be able to express your true self. That’s why your consultation will begin with a conversation to identify what you want to communicate with your clothing and style … and to learn about your lifestyle, likes and dislikes.
  • Next, we’ll take stock of your current wardrobe and accessories. You’ll learn which styles enhance your assets … as well as the colors, textures and patterns that flatter your coloring and work for your shape and size. More importantly, you’ll learn what to avoid.
  • Then we’ll edit your wardrobe, removing the pieces that don’t work. We’ll keep as much as possible from your existing wardrobe … and I’ll start teaching you to identify styles, colors and fabrics that will work for you.
  • Next, using the clothes from your closet that work, I’ll coordinate a variety of outfits. I prefer to help clients build wardrobes centered around core basics that have a timeless quality. When you have a solid foundation of pieces that look great and work well together, it’s easy to express the real you as you continue adding clothes and accessories that reflect your personal style.
  • Finally, we’ll prepare a prioritized shopping plan that includes the must-haves to be added to your wardrobe.

Depending on your needs, you may also receive referrals to other specialists in my network of image professionals, including voice coaches, makeup artists, hairstylists, skincare aestheticians, massage therapists, and dressmakers.

If you’ve ever been frustrated by running from store to store, trying on dozens of pieces of clothing only to find nothing fits … prepare yourself for an extraordinary and educational day of shopping.

  • We’ll start with a preparatory wardrobe and style review, conducted at your home before our shopping excursion. (See An In-Home Style and Wardrobe Review described in the Silver Package above.)
  • Before we meet, I’ll visit to my favorite stores and boutiques. Armed with your shopping plan, I’ll assemble a preliminary selection of clothes for you to try. I’ll also make arrangements for the stores to have an assistant on hand to attend to your needs when we arrive to shop.
  • Depending on your shopping list, budget, and the fabrics and styles that will look best on your body, we may be shopping in department stores … or hideaway boutiques. If your budget allows, I may also introduce you to an atelier of wonderful designer limited editions, custom designs, special accent pieces and fabulous jewelry.
  • When you show up for our second appointment, the clothes I’ve chosen will be waiting for you. With my expert advice, you’ll begin selecting the pieces that meet the needs of your closet.

“I have just stored my suitcase after an unbelievable eight months of nearly constant travel…in all climates and kinds of occasions, and I could never have pulled it off without the superb advice you’ve given me. The wardrobe basics (and some not-so-basics!) you helped me acquire and the knowledge of how to make them work for me were a godsend. I was able to go off with a minimum of flurry, knowing that I had exactly the right wardrobe.”
